Scott Townend has worked across the gamut as a multi-disciplinary filmmaker since 2005. Currently he spends most of his days writing and executive producing Run The Burbs, a 30 minute comedy that was co-created by Townend and his best friend and creative partner, Andrew Phung. The family comedy features Phung, living his best life in the suburbs and will be airing on CBC & CBC Gem in January, 2022.

Before Run The Burbs, Townend Produced, co-directed, and edited the feature length documentary: The Secret Marathon (2019). The film, which features the stories of the marathon of Afghanistan and the women who run in it, sold out most of its screenings, broke attendance records, and won audience choice awards at multiple film festivals. Prior to that, Townend wrote, produced, directed and edited hundreds of other commercial projects in his home province of Alberta for clients including the Government of Alberta, University of Alberta, University of Calgary, NAIT, TD Bank, Rapid Fire Theatre, Wine and Beyond, and many other private industries and not for profit organizations, under his production company Townend Films.

Townend has also worked as a freelance writer, camera operator and editor, on projects such as: “The Smalls: Forever Is A Long Time (Camera & Editing - Documentary, 2015), Queen of the Oil Patch (Camera Op - TV series, 2018), Red Earth Uncovered (Editor, 4 episodes - TV series, 2018-2019), London’s Calling (Camera & Editing - WestJet Commercial, 2019) and a YMCA mental health campaign (Writer - YMCA Commercials, 2019).

Over the course of his career, Townend has honed his skills in many aspects of production and post, but his true passion remains in comedy. “Co-creating, writing, and producing Run The Burbs has been a dream come true, and I get to do it with my best friend.” says Townend, though he’s sure it’s just the beginning of the next adventure.
